Musical Offerings, Education, and Inspiration

Raising awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Iraq and raising funds for Direct Aid Iraq, an organization providing aid to Iraqis, tragically impacted by six years of war, violent sectarianism, and military occupation.

Join us for an exciting evening of goodwill, love, and compassion for the people of Iraq !

Over the past six years, more than 5 million Iraqis have been displaced from their homes and livelihoods because of war, violent sectarianism, and military occupation. Over one million Iraqis have died since March 2003. Hundreds of thousands are now in need of medical attention and humanitarian aid.

In response to the humanitarian crisis, Benefit for the People of Iraq will take place on Wednesday, March 25th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium, 122 S. Walnut Street.

The benefit concert will feature musical offerings by Janiece Jaffe, Curtis Cantwell Jackson, and Deborah & Jonathan Hutchison.

Featured speaker, Noah Baker Merrill, Project Director of Direct Aid Iraq, will talk about the needs of Iraqi refugees and the work of Direct Aid Iraq. Merrill will also present a new film, “Remember Iraq”, giving injured and displaced Iraqis an opportunity to speak for themselves about their experiences and needs.

Funds raised will go to Direct Aid Iraq, an organization that provides medical and humanitarian aid to Iraqi refugees. Learn more about Direct Aid Iraq at their website: http://www.directaidiarq.org/about/

Tickets: $15
Now available at Howard's Bookstore and Athena, and will also be on sale at the door, on March 25th.

Benefit organizer, Timothy Baer says about the March 25th program, “How will we, as citizens of the United States, respond to those tragically impacted by the foreign policies of our government?
Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, ‘… when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.'
This benefit concert is just one small tangible way to move in the direction of peace and healing for Iraq. On March 25th, the public is cordially invited to an exciting evening of goodwill, compassion, and love for the people of Iraq!”

The benefit program is presented by Bloomington Peace Action Coalition and The Declaration of Peace, a nationwide campaign focused on Peace for Iraq. Co-sponsored by Indiana Students Against War.
